How long have you been in business?
We opened in 2002. :^)
What is your primary product or service?
We provide martial arts instruction for adults and youth. We teach Kung-Fu, Karate, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Submission Grappling, Aikido, Japanese Jujutsu, Capoeira, Boxing, Kali, Silat, and soft style arts. We also have a full fitness facility and provide personal training, nutrition assessments, and other fitness related services.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I began training in the martial arts at 7 years old. Now at 39 years old, I've been teaching for over 20 years. I'm a former police officer and a licensed Social Worker Associate. We have 3 full-time staff and 14 part-time staff.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are, without a doubt, the most fully functional martial arts academy in Connecticut.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one location, and we do not have plans to open others currently. If you are in the West Hartford area, please stop by!

We are very easy to find... right off New Park Avenue in West Hartford.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards.
Which areas do you service?
We have students ages 5 and up. We have many adults in their 30's and 40's, some in their 50's and 60's.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Darin Reisler is the owner of Plus One Defense Systems. He is on-site and manages the operation. He can be reached at 860-922-5343.
What are your hours of operation?
We are open Monday through Saturday. We have classes as early as 6am and as late as 9:15pm.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
Referrals are always the best compliments. When a student refers a friend, co-worker, or family member to us... that is the highest compliment we can receive.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
I have several favorites. However, 1 Corinthians 13:13 is embodied in our logo. "And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love."
