Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital was established by Dr. Diana Lafer in 1995.
What is your primary product or service?
Cats Limited offered cat owners something different: care focused on cats-only, in a calm and safe environment with individualized care for each patient. Over the following years, as the demand for high quality cat care grew, so did Cats Limited. Within a few years, Cats Limited outgrew the original facility
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
After six years of general practice, Dr. Lafer decided to focus her career on cats only. Why cats only? After years of seeing cats being treated as small dogs and getting short-changed on medical attention, the idea of focusing on and specializing in cats spoke to her.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital is proud to be the first feline only hospital in Connecticut that is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Since 1996 we have regularly undergone evaluations by AAHA to ensure that we comply with the association’s high quality standards of care. These standards cover nearly every aspect of our hospital, including surgery, pharmacy, laboratory, exam facilities, pet health records, cleanliness, dental and nursing care, diagnostic imaging, and anesthesiology. Approximately only 15 percent of animal hospitals in North America are accredited by AAHA.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
In 2006, Dr. Lafer purchased the building at 1260 New Britain Avenue. Built originally as a farmhouse in approximately 1850 and renovated into office space in 1973, the building needed complete renovation. Internal demolition started in November, 2006 and construction was finished in August, 2007. The move to the new facility brought with it the ability to provide even better medical and surgical care and an upscale boarding facility
